Unboxing The Birchbox – October 2017

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well.

Today’s post is the very first of a new beauty series I am starting – Unboxing The Birchbox!

If you’re unaware, the Birchbox is a monthly beauty subscription box. You pay ¬£12.95 a month (that’s including postage!) and you receive 5-6 beauty treats, full-size and test-size to enjoy and play around with.

Now, I absolutely love trying new beauty products, so this subscription is ideal for me. You can either pay £12.95 a month with no contract, or pay 3, 6 or 12 months upfront and get a little discount.

You can also fill in your preferences, hair and skin types so they can tailor specific products to you. They also have certain featured products which they sometimes send to everyone.

Let me tell you, I’ve only received one box but I already LOVE the whole concept more than I will my first-born. I literally cannot wait for the November box to arrive so I can get my hands on more goodies.

Once a month I’ll be showing you guys what I’ve received – perfect for the nosy person, and you can see if you fancy signing up yourself! Let’s delve in.

Birchbox partner up with a different company every month to focus their box on. This month, it was CoppaFeel, the breast cancer awareness charity.

As well as the helpful info card informing you on how to check ya knockers every month, they included this ‘Grab Your Melons’ shower gel. Uhh… I mean, not really applicable when you don the chest of a 10 year old boy, but I get the general gist.

As shower gels go, there aren’t a multitude of observations to make, are there? But, this one smells bloody lovely and refreshing (like melons, surprisingly!) It’s a winner in my books.

I’d never tried a Spectrum brush before so I was buzzing to see this in the box, as I’ve only ever heard great things. For a start, they’re designed super sleek and they’re also all vegan and cruelty-free, which is a big bonus for me.

This brush is faaaab: super soft and perfect for applying highlighter to turn yourself into a glow worm. It’s also supposed to be great for contouring, but I haven’t tried that yet.

I was really skeptical about this product as generally when it comes to contouring, I’m a bit of a… moron.

I usually contour with a brush and bronzer and tend to shy away from cream products as they scare me. I’ve tried contouring with a darker concealer before, but ended up looking like a grubby mess who just dunked her cheek in a muddy puddle. As you do.

Well, I’m actually pleasantly surprised. I’ve used this loads now and the formula is so silky and buttery and applies like a creamy, dreamy delight.

It blends out¬†really¬†easily with a beauty blender which is exactly what I thought it wouldn’t do. I honestly can’t fault it!

I’ve used this applicator several times now, and I have to say, I’m not its no.1 fan!

It may just be because it’s brand new – I find with makeup sponges that they’re always too stiff and firm when they haven’t been used a bit. I just think they are at their best ability after ‘wearing them in’, if you like.

I don’t think I’ve mastered the use of this product yet – I’ll keep trying!

I’ve just used this face wash about 5 minutes ago for the first time and really enjoyed it.

I’m breaking out¬†terribly¬†at the moment, so something to help clear up my skin was greatly appreciated in the box!

It has a really fresh scent, lathered up nicely on my skin and left me feeling cleaner. I’m going to really enjoy continuing using this.

*Update – it’s the morning after and I’ve woken up with my spots¬†significantly¬†smaller in size – coincidence or miracle product?!

Last but not least, the only product I haven’t actually tried yet. I’m sure my hair will very much appreciate it, as recently my locks have been awfully dry and brittle and in desperate need of some TLC.

This product is free of everything you’d possibly want it to be free from – sulfates, sodium, parabens, gluten (?) and it’s totally vegan too. I mean, not that I’ve ever desperately wanted a gluten-free hair spray, but there you go.

I did give it a cheeky little spritz earlier and it smelt DELISH, so I’m excited to get some use out of it.

Overall, I’m super happy with what I received this month! Also – how pretty is the box?! I’m going to keep them all for makeup storage, me thinks.

I really hope you enjoyed this post – I loved writing it and taking the pics for it!

Speak soon.
