I have finally moved back to lovely Brighton permanently now, so I have lots of time to write, write and write.
Moving from uni back home was a chore – how am I going to cope moving an entire house in the future, let alone a tiny box room?! I think I filled up about 20 Bags for Life with utter crap. I’m definitely a hoarder. That tiny bird statue? Yep, I’ll definitely find use for that in the next few weeks. What about the broken pink fan? An essential! Sigh.
Anyway, I’m back today with a little review of a product I was kindly sent a few weeks ago.
Let’s get this straight – I am definitely a pasta girl. I will always order it in a restaurant if I can and, like the typical student, make it for both lunch and dinner 5 nights in a row and wonder why I’m bloated to the point where I look 8 months pregnant.
Buuut… sometimes, a change is on the cards. What I’m reviewing is no ordinary pasta; it’s made purely from seaweed. I’m a fan of Courgetti (Courgette Spaghetti) and I also love Mung Bean pasta, so I was curious to see how this would pan out.
As you can see, there is no other ingredient other than seaweed itself. It’s carb free, and also one of your 5 a day.
Before I continue… I am NOT one to promote ‘No carbs before Marbs’ and all that restrictive bullshit. I am an avid supporter of carb consuming! We need healthy carbs to focus and fuel our brains.
However, sometimes you may just fancy something a bit lighter and not too filling. This is where Seamore Pasta comes into the equation: it’s totally vegan, GMO free, organic, sustainable and all that jazz, so no guilt comes with the consumption!
I wanted to get a real feel for this alien product, so last week I prepared 2 simple, easy dishes for my lunch using the pasta (because one lunch just isn’t enough.)
When I first opened the packet… I won’t lie, I was immediately put off by the, let’s say unusual stench that emerged. I’d kind of forgotten that the Tagliatelle I was cooking was certainly not authentic Italian but instead, had been dragged out the ocean. The seaweed had a slightly fishy aroma, and smelt like… well, the sea.
Honestly, I was feeling very unsure at this point about whether I’d be able to stomach it. But, like the trooper I am, I chucked that stuff into a pan of boiling water and waited patiently.
Firstly, I thought I’d make a salad.
I threw together a simple salad of lettuce, butter beans, shredded carrot, cucumber, and of course, the lovely seaweed pasta, all drizzled in a balsamic glaze. Ugh, ‘balsamic glaze.’ Who do I think I am, Gordon Ramsay?
I also made some pesto ‘pasta’ with smashed avocado.
Straight away, I knew the second dish was a better option.
The Seamore website suggests to use the product as a pasta replacement, or just as a portion of vegetables with a meal. The ‘pasta’ dish was definitely much tastier, and the seaweed after 15 minutes of boiling really did resemble a slightly al dente pasta, which I personally love.
The salad was still pleasant, but the ‘pasta’ was quite chewy alongside it and I wasn’t sure if it went very well. The meal still got scoffed though, obviously.
And, let me tell you – after cooking, the beautiful smell I so elegantly described before was gone. Instead of tasting like murky sea breeze, it had a very delicate, subtle flavour just like our well-loved pasta does.
After a few mouthfuls, I decided to throw all I had made into one giant pasta salad. I can really see this product working well for people who meal prep, or perhaps for a busy working person who doesn’t have time to cook lots of separate meals.
